My goodness, you have hit the proverbial nail on the head. As a 40+ year old white woman who has suffered greatly because of the stereotypes propogated by such "skeezers" (for lack of a better word) I am certainly sympathetic to your plight. Not only have I not had any children out of wedlock or had children by mutliple men but I even speak proper English. In fact, I attended exclusive prep schools, graduated from both college and lawschool, own my own car, own my own house in a nice neighborhood and I am even on of a very few female members at an exclusive country club. Regardless, when I am seen with a black man many people (black and white, and the entire spectrum of colors in between) still attribute my preference to offensive stereotypical assumptions. Assumptions including, but not limited to: the notion that I am a whore, I sleep with any black man who hits on me, at some point in my life I have collected welfare, or I have appeared on Jerry Springer. It is both offensive and disturbing that this phenomena still exists. Worse yet, is the fact that there is such a burgeoning number of low class white women who have adopted the "stereotype" as thier lifestyle of choice. I also find it absolutely shocking that so many accomplished, well-educated black men actually find these sleezbags attractive enough to not only date but to breed with? I meet these men, they tell me thier story and then wonder why I am not interested ... hello? I don't want any association with those type of people, much less to deal with thier illegitmate kids. The women and men who condone and propogate the stereotype that only white trash females date inter-racially truly make me sick. I refuse to associate with either the women or any man who has chosen to affiliate himself with such nastiness. In all honesty, mere words can not begin to express my personal feelings on the matter and how it has adversely impacted my life. These women and the men who love them ar...

I too consider myself refined, intelligent, well-bred and well spoken. However, because of my upbringing, my form of communication may be misconstrued as being bourgeois, uppity, 'not black enough' or grandstanding. If you have the opportunity to do so, there are two comments on this blog that, although pungent, are profound and seem to represent the situation at hand. They are entry #9 (comment by Phea44 dated 6/11/06) and entry #16 (comment by MrRSVP dated 6/17/06). They are a must read and seem to personify human behavior and how we are perceived in America society regarding this dilemma!

Isn't it "funny" how thugs, ghetto, ebonics, ignorance, etc... are all associated with the Black culture.

Whereas intelligence, refinement, proper english, etc...are Caucasian characteristics.

I won't comment on the topic at hand, I was just thinking out loud.

Exactly.
FWIW, the original poster did mention *Ghetto White girls who date Black men* using slang and Ebonics and such, but I don't think he said they try to act Black. If they are putting on a 'ghetto' act, based on their preference, than that's ignorant and speak of a skewed generalized perception on their part. It takes all kinds, I guess.
I'm another Black person who is seen as *uppity* or whatever because I speak properly. It's me, and the only way I can say I've consciously tried to change the way I speak is by trying to avoid speaking with a Midwest(Minnesota!) accent - you know, chewy, like - "Ya, I'm frum Minnasoy-tah...." :D
And I've had white men (I've *mostly* dated white men exclusively)tell me they don't see me as Black, because I don't act or speak like a Black person. Whatever that means. Listen to Hip-Hip/Rap? Go to dance clubs every weekend? (I don't dance!)Still, I've had even more black men tell me this.
Hm??? Well I am Black, and if the usual stereotypes don?t fit - *they* must not be accurate enough, not the other way around. Ghetto in not synonymous with Black, just as Trailer Park is not synonymous with White - as a racial definition. Same with gender- oh, I've had many discussions about what it is to be female. What I'm saying is that genitalia or skin pigmentation, hair texture, etc., does not determine personality or one?s essential nature.
I think people simply need to change their racial/gender definitions and see them as the physical classifications that they are.

I believe you are 100% correct. I am a sophisticated black man and I have always been accused of acting white. What is that all about?

Hey!!! Come on now! I have been hearing this load of rubbish now for 30 years. I talk proper because it is the "proper" way to speak. Anyone who can't speak the King's English needs to keep quiet!!!

Amen, you speaking truth there sistaor shall I say, "you are speaking tht truth there, miss!" lol. I hate the black/white thing, when we meet our creator, he will inform us of all misguided thinking involving the races. Besides, we are all a mixture of a variety of people that we cannot even trace.

I definitely agree with you. Sometimes you can only tolerate a certain aspect of it. I could see if you were raised like that, but not in some afflunet area and then act like someone your not. That is extremely pathetic.

I saw this asian guy trying to talk and act ghetto with this other girl. It didn't even fit his character obviously.

Be real with yourself and the whole world will respect you even more!!

2 points....
Firstly, too many white girls love black men BUT HATE their black fam/children/sister/cousins etc. at the same time!
This doesn't make sense.
The white women around here honestly can't do their mixed daughters heads of hair.......you know what, if they were right about things.....they'd have their black 'inlaws' hook them up and do or teach them how to do their little girls hair.....instead, they're so busy loving black men, but hating black culture and women, that nearly all of their little girls go around with an undone head of hair honest. Why, cause they refuse to befriend his black family!
How wrong is that?
Maaaaaake frieeeennds girls!!
Get your head on straight!
Your child may be mixed, but once they are out in the real world, they're gonna be considered black period...no if's, ands or buts about it!
White society made it that way many years ago.....any bit of black blood in em, and they're considered what?....black!
So learn to love and accept the culture, not just the black man....won't work in the long run.
PS
my daughter is mixed too.
I am like the odd 1 here because all their mom's are white and the dad black, whereas I am black and her dad instead is white.
You can't love half your child.....nor half of their culture.......so stop trying!
I have always loved and embraced all people, cultures etc....even to an extreem. That's the way God made me.
Let's try love shall we?
2nd....that's garbage about 'ghetto white girl'.
When they have grown up around and or live around city black folks, their 'accent' or dialect may or may not change......that's life!
Who we live around for an extended amount of time is who we adapt culturally to. Period.
They are not fake! This is just the way they have adapted to speak.
If you live in the ghetto/are from their.....you're ghetto whether white, black, jewish etc.
Look that up!
So instead of the 'nasil' dialect, they sometimes take on the slang/ebonics etc.
Let them alone!!

your comment just blew my mind. my daughter is biracial and was raised by a wonderful Black Man. He taught her to use proper english. It not about trying to sound white, if you use proper english, but that you have been educated.

do you run into that a lot? personally, i don't want to BE black, but i enjoy the the black culture, and love black men. seems like you could winnow out the ones who aren't genuine pretty quickly. then again, who's to say how real someone else is to their own nature?

You be who you wanna be - but trust me on this - no matter what "hood" you were raised in & no matter how cool you are like that - there is no way & no how it is ever EVER cool for you to think you can refer to Black folk as "nigga". Gurl please...

That kinda silliness is gonna get your butt in trouble. If you been in the hood then you know that one of the serious complaints much of "Black America" has about white folk is that (as a generality) they think they have some exclusive ticket or invitation to anywhere, anything, anytime. All too often they think they can talk shyt because they have Black friends. Telling "Black jokes" & using the "nigga" word like they are Black as they wanna be.

Just cause you grew up in the hood doesn't mean you have one iota of a clue what being Black is all about - nor does it entitle you to speak to folk in that manner.

As an aside - frankly, I think poison in any packaging is still poison - so using the "n" word in any form by anyone is unacceptable to me.

Now that's my 50 cents worth... Peace out... aisha
